Gulf banks to expand business segments

The banking industry in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) expects to face a whole new layer of activity that is driven by small businesses that are fast emerging as a major market force, said Amr Al Sa?adani, Managing Director, Financial Services ? Middle East, Accenture Middle East.

Announcing the results of an Accenture survey of leading banking sector executives in the region, Al Sa?adani said the region?s banks are in a race to adapt to more demanding customers and are increasingly targeting the largely untapped youth, women and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Mideast tensions, Europe bailout keep Brent above $110

Brent crude stayed above $110 on Wednesday, holding onto its previous session gains, as Iran's escalating tensions with the West and an agreement by euro zone ministers to ramp up the firepower of their bailout fund helped support prices.

Brent crude slipped 32 cents to $110.50 by 0323 GMT, after revisiting the previous session's top of $111, which was its highest level in about two weeks. US crude eased 66 cents to $99.21 a barrel. It had risen $1.58 on Tuesday to settle at $99.79 a barrel.

Lautiti Tualima serving 13 years in jail for several robberies. An English woman who returned to Samoa to testify in the hearing of an attempted rape against her told the Court yesterday that it was the worst 40 minutes of her life. The defendant, Lautiti Tualima, aged 19, is serving 13 years in jail for several robberies.

Included is robbing the English couple?s home in Vaoala. Since Monday, Lautiti Tualima, aged 19, has been on trial on allegations of indecent assault and attempting to rape the woman when he robbed their home.
